About

You can't get pregnant from having those kinds of thoughts...Can you?

Seventeen-year old Manon knows she’s not pregnant. After all, she’s never had sex.

Except she is actually pregnant.

Nobody’s roofied her. And probably there isn’t a pervert on the loose hypodermically impregnating virgins. Manon’s going to have to treat the whole thing as an act of God. Either that or an alien abduction. She can’t decide which is more preposterous.

Whatever's happened, Manon may just as well give up her struggle to not be the weird girl at school. And she may as well give up on Elias, the mysterious boy who haunts her dreams.

Except it turns out Elias knows Manon's fantasies about him. In detail.

Like he's been inside her head while she's having them. . .

The Book of Beings is NOT a normal book...

1. The Book of Beings is still partly in beta.

Volume One from The Book of Beings came out of beta on June 1st, 2013. After that, one episode will be released from beta on the first of each following month. However, the rest of the book--episodes 5-14--is currently available in beta. This means that if you can't wait to find out what happens, you're welcome to read ahead--as long as you can live without proofreading and you don't mind reading something that may differ from the final version.

If you do read the beta version and provide feedback, we'll gladly send you the final versions of each episode as they're released. (And we release the final versions"on top of" the beta versions, so your file will update itself if you want it to.)

If you would like to read the beta version of The Book of Beings for free, please request an advance reader copy.

2. The Book of Beings is a serial narrative

What does that mean?

It means that The Book of Beings tells a story that is longer and more complicated than you could fit into a single book. When the print version is available, it will come in four good-sized (350-400 page) volumes. If you read it in a digital, or e-book format, it comes in fourteen episodes.

So is it like a series?

Not really. The Book of Beings does offer many of the pleasures of reading a series: you get to know the characters in depth, you have a chance to immerse yourself in a fictional world, and the narrative builds complexity as it goes.  But you can't read The Book of Beings the same way you would read a series. In a series, you can read the books in any order, or just read one book and not the others, and it will still make sense because each book in the series is a self-contained story. With The Book of Beings, you're not going to be able to (or want to!) read just one. Plus, you need to start at the beginning and read all the episodes in order. Some of the episodes end with a kind of a resolution, but most of them end on a cliff-hanger. The whole thing works together to make the story.

Wait! I have to read fourteen whole books to find out the story?

No. An episode is not as long as a regular book would be. The episode length varies, but most of them are around 20,000 words, which is about a third or fourth of a typical novel. The whole thing, all together, is the same length as a nice, meaty trilogy. (And by the time you get to the end, you're going to wish it was even longer!)
